 Baby Shower Games!
What do you do at a shower?
Don't play a lot of "girly" games if you are inviting guys, play
some newer games that the guys can have fun with, like a drinking milk out of a
bottle race, or a diapering contest. If you have a mother-to-be who would be offended by weight guessing or waist
guessing games you might consider leaving them out. You can buy prepackaged games, but the best are usually home made!
My family likes to put paper plates on their heads and draw pictures of the
pregnant woman. This is often funny, and I've saved all my glorious pictures
from these showers for the kids. Here are some other ideas!
Baby Pictionary -
This game is based upon the original Pictionary board game.
Before the shower, place words relating to baby activities and items on small cards. (eg: Changing a diaper, giving birth, feeding time) At the shower,
create teams and give each one a pad of paper and pencil. Let one member of the team see a card, then tell then to draw the
word or phrase for their partners to guess. Use a timer or just play until someone guesses.
When the time is up, the teams total up the number of words they have guessed correctly and
the one who has the most wins a prize.
Don't Say that Word Game
- Give each guest a diaper pin when they arrive. Tell them
to pin it to their shirt and to try and get the other guests to say the word
"baby" or whatever word you choose. When the other guests say the
word, they get to take their pin. The one with the most pins wins! This is a
really fun game and encourages people to mingle!
The Name Game - Ask each guest to pick out a baby name for a boy or a girl (if
the sex is known, have guests pick a first and middle name). Have them write their selected names down on a piece of paper. After each person has completed this, explain that they
are to create words made up of letter in their chosen names. Use a timer and have the
guests write down as many words as they can think of. When the time is up, your guests total
up the number of words they have created and the one who has the most words wins.
Example: Annabelle Morgan ---- ball, name, born, melon, organ, label.
Rice Bowl
- Fill a large bowl with plain rice, half filled and pour a package of small
safety pins in it. The object of the game is to find and remove as many safety pins as possible while blindfolded. Blindfold the guests,
one at a time, and give them 30 seconds to find and remove as many safety pins as possible and place them in a second bowl. This is a hard task
because the pins feel just like the rice! The pins are counted after each guest. After each turn and the pins have been counted, place the
pins back in the bowl for the next person. The guest who removes the most wins!
Who's in the Photo? - When mailing the invitations, enclose a note requesting that
each guest bring a baby photo of himself or herself. As the guests arrive, place a post-it
with a number on the back of each photo. Keep a list and write down the name of the guest
next to the number their photo is. Place photos on a bulletin board or use double-sided tape
and place on the wall. Later in the party, give each guest a piece of paper and a photo. Have
them write down their guesses as to who they think the baby picture is of. After everyone has
seen all the photos, the hostess can read who was who and hold up the photo at the same
time. Guests mark those that they get correct. The one who gets the most right, wins!
Stork Bingo - Create your own set of bingo cards except don't use numbers but
instead, use things related to babies. Instead of having BINGO across the top, use the word STORK.
Estimate the size of the Mother-to-be's Tummy -
Buy a ribbon before the shower. The ribbon should be at least 60 inches long or (about 2 yards). Pass the ribbon to each guest and let
her write her initials where she believes the waistline of the mother-to-be. Initials should be
written very small. Rule: No guests can put the string around themselves or each other to make
a guess. When everyone is finished, the mother-to-be wraps the ribbon around her waist and
the person whose initials are closest to the true measurement wins the prize. This is a
fun keepsake for the mother-to-be to put in her photo album or scrapbook as a remembrance of the shower game.
Baby Food Game - Buy 5 to 10 different baby food jars and place a number on the
bottom of each jar. Choose flavors and combinations that are more difficult to recognize. Remove jar labels and record which baby food jar coordinates
with each number. (Eg: sweet potato is #1; Turkey & Peas is #2....) Place the jars and plastic spoons on a tray and pass it
around to the guests. Hand out a piece of paper and pencil to each guest. Guests then try to
guess what flavor is in each jar and write it down. Some people will be able to guess the flavor by
site alone, especially moms. After everyone has finished guessing then read the
answers. The person who correctly lists the most flavors is the winner. This is very good practice
for the mother-to-be because she will be doing this on a daily basis in the very near future!
Nursery Rhymes - Write down parts of old Nursery Rhymes or children's songs and
see how many your guests can remember the missing parts. For example:
1) Hey diddle, diddle, the cat and the fiddle, the dish ran away with the ___________.
2) Georgie Porgie, puddin' and pie, Kissed the girls and made them __________.
3) Jack Sprat could eat no fat, His wife could eat no ____________. And so betwixt the
two of them, they licked the platter clean.

Dirty Diapers - Fold white napkins or cloths into little diaper forms and close with
small diaper pins. (Newborn disposable diapers tied with pink and blue ribbon can also be
used.) Place all the diapers in a large basket and have each guest take one. At the end of
the party, each guest opens up their diaper and the one with the brown "poop" spot wins a
prize. (A combination of melted Hershey's chocolate kiss and mustard) All the diapers besides
the "filled" one are still useable and should be given to the mother-to-be to take home.
Pin the Bottle on the Calendar - Purchase a very nice calendar. Pin it
to the wall, opened to the month of of the due date. Cut out a paper bottle and place
a piece of double stick tape to the back. Blindfold each guest, spin her around, and watch
each guest attempt to "pin the diaper to the expected due date". The winner of the calendar is the
guest who pins closest to the estimated due date.
Baby Word Scramble - Copy the list of scrambled words below and hand one to
each guest. Give them a certain amount of time (suggested:2-5 minutes) to try and unscramble as many words as they are able to do. Read the unscrambled list to the guests.
The guest that unscrambled the most words is the winner. The hostess then gives a small gift as a prize.
